Before every ride

Before you go

Unlock the bikeUsing the key booked through PoolCar. Battery checkBattery is in place and not connected to the charger. Press the power switch on the LCD display unit (middle of the handlebars) to turn the bike on, then check the display shows the battery is charged. Select “range” to see the km available at each assistance level. If the bike has been idle, press the button on the left side of the battery first to reactivate the display. Light checkFront and rear lights operate. The switch is on the right of the handlebar control panel. Always use the battery-operated lights in low-light conditions. The small detachable handlebar light is for extra visibility. Brake checkBoth right and left levers feel progressive and become firm at least 1–2 cm in front of the grip position. Bell checkRotate the bell grip on the left handlebar to confirm it's operational. Seat checkAdjust to roughly hip height. Don't extend higher than the indicator on the seat post, and make sure the seat pole clamp is firmly in place. Handlebar checkAdjust up, down, forward and back using the lever on the handlebars. Tyre checkUse the track pump to verify the tyres are 60–80 psi. Wheels & mudguard checkVisually check for damage, paying particular attention to the spokes for signs of damage.

While you're out

Lock it up when you park

Remove the pannier and lock the bike to an immovable object using the chain.

Keep pedalling

These are power-assist bikes. Pedal and use the gears at all times for a smooth, powerful ride. If the pedals spin too fast you won't get the assistance you need to climb a hill.

Mechanical failure or damage

Phone the fleet team on 03 9205 5555 or email fleet@yarracity.vic.gov.au. If no one is available, lock the bike in an off-street location and phone 13TAXI. If there's no safe place to leave it, order a taxibus to transport you and the bike. Keep your receipt to be reimbursed.

Bike stolen?

Contact your fleet representative immediately on 03 9205 5555 or fleet@yarracity.vic.gov.au.

On your return

Charge if neededIf the battery display shows less than four bars, charge the battery. Turn the power off firstAlways switch off before charging. Charge: direct methodIf you can park near the powerpoint, plug the battery directly into an adaptor, connect that to the powerpoint, then switch the point on. Charge: remove the batteryAlternatively, use the key to unlock the battery, firmly grip the back and yank it off the bike, then plug it into the wall using the adaptor. Lock the bikeLock it to a bike rack using the chain. Swap & recharge the detachable lightBattery lights keep shining for a while after use. If you used the small detachable light, replace it with another from the maintenance box and recharge the one you used. Return the keyRemove the key and return it to the PoolCar cabinet immediately.

Reporting faults

Complete a fault report form

Forms are in the bike cage. Place the completed form under the elastic on the pannier rack.
